This fall, there will be a brand new, shiny newspaper on newsstands all over the Texas A&M and Blinn campus areas. The newspapers will be free for students and faculty to take. The new newspaper will literally be shiny, following the trend of many upscale weekly and monthly papers that have been going glossy.
It will be the same size as the popular Research Valley Press, following an idea put forward by mailed monthly newspapers (like Community Impact of Austin, Dallas and Houston) of “going small” in terms of size, smaller than even a standard tabloid newspaper format.
It will also feature several other innovations, like new print to web integrations with the online version of the paper, Scene979.com and the campus deals site CampusVIP.net designed to drive social and web traffic in addition to more foot traffic for advertisers.
The look/feel of the new publication is being Art Directed by, Chance Okonski, owner of KIE Men’s Shoppe and nationally recognized fashion stylist. Okonski will also serve as the publication’s Fashion Editor.
Over 25,000 copies of each issue of the The Scene Campus Newspaper and Campus VIP Coupon Magazine are to be made available FREE to students, faculty, and staff in the Texas A&M University and Blinn College areas, both on-campus and off. Distribution occurs through high traffic events like back-to-school book rush as well as through hundreds of take-one rack locations on campus, at shuttle stops, on Northgate, at dorms and student communities, and other locations hand-picked for their high student traffic.
The Scene will be on the “flip side” as the second front cover of Campus VIP Magazine, the campus community’s biggest coupon book in terms of local ad count, serving Aggieland since 1999.
